I love being a mother. I raised ‘em all. I loved ‘em all. I took ‘em to the vet to get their distemper shots and made ‘em take their heartworm medicine and brush their teeth. And yet, they turned out so different. How can that be? Same obedience school, same house, same backyard, same parents, and generally the same friends! If you are ever in Coushatta, Louisiana, come by and let’s talk about this. I own the Dew Drop In Beauty Shop and Extreme Makeover Salon on Hwy. 71, just across the street from the old folks’ home. I’m there most of the time.
This poem is one that I read many times to my puppies as they grew up.
What’s that rolling up the hill?
Is it a cat or rat or a mother of pearl?
I ask that of the old oak tree living with me.
He said of that, we are blessed, you and I.
I will look over you as I have the many others that passed by.
That is what you make of it.
One of my puppies, Hattie Mae, will comment on her siblings; she knows them best.
Thanks again for coming to see us. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
